Week of the 'B'

The kids were sick this week so we had a shorter week.  We haven't been doing this very long and it's been such a blast but the break was kinda nice.  I discovered that just because we're homeschooling doesn't mean I have to always be in teacher mode.  It's nice to just be in Mom mode too.

We made wax paper butterflies out of B's. The kids had fun cutting up old crayons and melting them for these.

We made this cardboard city a while ago but we finally took a picture so we could free up some real estate in our house.
Our new pet.  A spider.
Ani helped to iron fabric for the alphabet flags we are making.

She also stitched the letters on that we cut out from felt.

Miles looking for the right bead for the necklace he's making.

We went for an alley walk to find leafs and flowers to make imprints out of.  The kids also found horse chestnuts to smash open with hammers.

Yes, that's chestnut juice flying through the air!

I noticed Miles out on the bed we have on our back porch pretending to be fishing on a boat.  Before I knew it both of the kids were fishing with the poles that used to be bike racks and random pieces of metal.  They were catching the fish, cooking them up on the stove and eating them.  I love their imaginations.
 Miles swimming off the boat.
We picked plums that we are turning into fruit leather.  This process seems to be taking a long time.  It's not supposed to but when you cut the plums one day, cook them the next and dehydrate them another day, it slows the process a bit.
The kids gathered objects from around the house and guessed which would sink or float.  We made a chart with our guesses and then recorded if each object floated or not.

The sink or float experiment soon turned into a giant jar of concoction.  All I wanted was for that jar to not fall on the ground.  Mission accomplished.
